The University of North Florida issued the following news release:

Baptist Health President and Chief Executive Officer Hugh Greene has been appointed to the University of North Florida Board of Trustees by the Florida Board of Governors. He succeeds outgoing trustee Steve Halverson, who left the Board in December 2006.

Greene's appointment was approved by the Board of Governors June 14. His term as a UNF Board of Trustees member will run through Jan. 6, 2010.

'I have always had a real commitment to education because I believe it is the key to a successful life and a healthy community,' says Greene. 'I am proud to have been chosen by the Florida Board of Governors to serve on UNF's Board of Trustees and hope to make a true impact.'

Joining Baptist Health in 1989, Greene has served in several administrative positions prior to becoming CEO in 2000. In that time, Baptist Health has expanded from its downtown Baptist Medical Center to four hospitals, including Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center South and Baptist Medical Center Nassau. The system also includes Wolfson Children's Hospital, located at Baptist Medical Center Downtown.

Greene is active on the UNF campus as well as in the Jacksonville community. He has been a member of the Brooks College of Health Dean's Council since 2004, serving as vice chair from 2004 to 2006. He has also acted as clinical assistant professor in UNF's Department of Public Health for 15 years, and currently serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Alliance for World Class Education. In addition, he is a member of the Board of the Wake Forest University Divinity School.

The Baptist Health administrator has been actively involved in the community in various organizations, including the board of directors, Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce; 2006 campaign chair, United Way of Northeast Florida; board member and chair, JaxCare; and board member and chair, I.M. Sulzbacher Center to name a few. Additionally, he is a recipient of the Excellence in Healthcare Award for establishing a healthcare clinic for the homeless.

Greene has a Master of Health Administration from the Medical College of Virginia and a bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University.Contact: Joanna Norris, 904/620-2102.
