FLORIDA HEALTH INSURANCE ADVISORY BOARD ADOPTS ANNUAL REPORT; APPOINTS ACTING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - US Fed News Service, Including US State News

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Dec. 21 -- The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation issued the following news release:

Yesterday, the Florida Health Insurance Advisory Board (FHIAB) met via teleconference to conduct its business, which included the passage of the Board's annual report, and the appointment of a new acting executive director. Deputy Insurance Commissioner Michelle Robleto chaired the meeting.

The Board members who attended the conference call unanimously adopted the FHIAB report, titled the '2011 Florida Health Insurance Market Report,' which the Florida Legislature requires to be completed annually. The report included a five-year trend analysis of premium and enrollment for different types of health insurance coverages from 2006-2010. In addition, the report featured financial data, specifically, direct premiums and losses and loss ratios for the same timeframe.

The report itself did not directly address the Affordable Care Act, the U.

S. Supreme Court Case challenging the Affordable Care Act, or the Department of Health and Human Services' recent denial of Florida's application for an adjustment to the Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) for the individual marketplace. However, the Board did review these issues during the meeting that was open to the public.

Board members also unanimously approved Michelle Newell Lovern to be the acting executive director of the FHIAB. Ms. Lovern is currently the President & CEO of Innovative Edge Consulting, Inc., and has also served as Vice President of the American Guaranty Fund Group, Inc. Prior to her private sector experience, she served for 10 years in various management roles at the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation; her last position was as Assistant Insurance Commissioner. Ms. Lovern will assume the role of acting executive director effective immediately and succeeds Torre Grissom.
