FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SECRETARY COMMENDS BOARDS, DIVISION OF MEDICAL QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR NATIONAL RECOGNITIONS - US Fed News Service, Including US State News

The Florida Department of Health issued the following news release:

Florida Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Ana M. Viamonte Ros, M.D., M.P.H., today commended the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine, Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine, board members and Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) employees for recent national recognitions and appointments.

'The vision of MQA is to be the nation's leader in quality healthcare regulation, and these awards and appointments represent great strides in reaching that goal,' Viamonte Ros said. 'There is no greater honor than being recognized by your national peers as the best of the best; every Floridian should be proud.'

National Board and Individual Awards:

The Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine was recognized as the 'Best of the Boards for 2007' by the Administrators in Medicine (AIM). The Board was acknowledged for its communication plan, which included an educational video aimed at increasing the number of osteopathic physicians choosing to practice in Florida.

The Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine received the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards' (FCLB) 2007 Outstanding Board Award. The board was cited for its current initiatives in public outreach and information distribution.

Former Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine Chair and FCLB Past President Wayne Wolfson, D.C., received FCLB's George R. Arvidson Award for Meritorious Service for his exceptional leadership and service to public protection. This is FCLB's highest individual honor.

MQA Investigative Services Unit Chief Tom Hannah, who currently serves on the AIM/FSMB Committee on National Medical Investigator Certification, received AIM's outstanding investigator award.

Individual Appointments and elections:

Former Board of Osteopathic Medicine Chair Jim Andriole, D.O., was elected to the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Board of Directors, joining current members Florida Board of Medicine member Tully Patrowicz, M.D., and Florida Board of Medicine Executive Director Larry McPherson, Jr., J.D.

Board of Osteopathic Medicine Vice-chair Robert Fedor, D.O., was elected to FSMB's Nominating Committee.

Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine Executive Director Joe Baker, Jr., was re-elected Executive Fellow on the FCLB Board of Directors.

Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine Executive Director Pamela King serves as vice-president of AIM.

Administrators in Medicine (AIM) is a national non-profit organization comprised of board executives from medical and osteopathic boards throughout the United States. Its purpose is to assist and support administrators for medical licensing and regulatory authorities to achieve administrative excellence and, ultimately, advance public safety.

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) is a national not-for-profit organization representing the 70 medical boards of the United States and its territories, including 14 state boards of osteopathic medicine.

The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards includes boards having jurisdiction to license or regulate the practice of chiropractic in the states, provinces, commonwealths or territories of the United States of America, Canada, Australia, Mexico, and other countries.
